We are movement that sees our traditional fishers and farmers as the backbone of our cultural life, its religious beliefs, festivals and customs. Our website gives more detail about the traditional pre-colonial life in Sri Lanka, but suffice it to say that like other traditional lifestyles around the world, it was built on an accommodation with nature when Man was seen as an integral part of the natural world and as such had duties and functions in keeping with the general ethos of life engendering life. As such we have seen successive governments seek to “develop” Sri Lanka in the image of the more developed countries without any consideration for the detrimental effects unbridled pursuits of such have resulted all over the world. We ask the question, “Without fishers and farmers, what culture?”
